夏らしい色合いの小さな何もしていないブロックを見つけたので、久しぶりにヴィクトリアンクレィジーっぽくこってり飾ってから、ニードルブックに仕上げました。

I happened to find a small naked block in summer color and embellished it heavily.

裏に使った布の残りで親指にはめて使うピンクッションが二つできました。

A Review for Hiroko's Book

Isn't this a big review for Hiroko's book?　I am so glad her book has got such a big appraisal.

My Friend, Hiroko Kubota's New Book- "Embroidered Cats"

Have you ever visited "hiroko kubota"s flickr album? You must be amazed her embroidered cats there. They look alive. I am sure whoever see her stitched cats would love them. I've been a fan of her embroidery for these ten years.

Last November I was asked to join her team to make her self-publishing book in English. I felt so glad and honored.  Her book has been finished and you can buy it now via her Etsy shop. If you see some example pages you will find how much her book is challenging and completely different from general ones. Very unique!!

She is so kind and generous to allow me to exhibit those work for this book in my gallery of "Granny's".  I am really lucky to see those cats in person. Of course she has got a perfect skill and artistic sense as embroiderer. Besides I always feel her warm love and human touch for objects she stitches.

Table-runner

春にしては色が地味ですが、６枚のブロックをつないでテーブルランナーにしました。未完成品の山がまた一つ減ってやれやれです。

I've made a table runner from 6 small blocks only seamstitched. I am afraid the colour is a bit dark for this season. But I am very happy another UFO of mine has been done now.　
                                                                      

My Snippet

スニペットというのは切れはしという意味らしいですが、それを寄せ集めた手芸ジャンルがあるらしくて、見よう見まねやってみたものです。寄せ集めて縫ったりくっつけたりは三日くらいであっという間に出来て１年も前に終わっていたのですが、日本人の常として切りっぱなしや縫い目の見えるのが気になってやっぱり裏をつけるべきかとか迷って、完成したという気持ちになれずホッタラかしていました。でも大体が切れ端の寄せ集めで作品というほどのものではないように思い、縫いつけるだけでいいような気がしてきて、これで終わりにしました。昔買ったりもらったりした古いブローチやピンをいっぱい止めつけてありますので、まるでブローチホルダーです。

This is my first snippet trial. I have pinned my old brooches and pins bought or given on it so it looks like a pin holder.

旅の思い出 My Memories of Trip to Scandinavia

今週グラニーズではムーミンランチをお出ししています。そう言えば昔、北欧を旅行したときの思い出をまとめてこんなものを作りました。旅行すると写真や絵はがきがついついたまります。何年も箱に入れたままだったのを整理しました。アルバムやノートに貼り付けてカバーを作り、ポケットのついたページを縫いつけ束ねただけのものです。

These are my memories of trip to north Europe thirty years ago. I made crazy quilted folder covers for photos, postcards and leaflets I had kept.  I traveled to Norway and Sweden with my husband for his conference and had a trip to Denmark and Germany by myself after that.

ハンブルグからケルン、デュッセルドルフといえばハイネ。若かったのですね。

"I Capture the Castle"

今年仕上げるつもりの未完成品にはまったく手つかずにいますが、今日はちょっと別の話題です。
二三日前、ある記事を見て私のことを思い出したと言って、イギリスの友人から珍しくメールが来ました。

My friend emailed me from England about this page because he knows I am a Japanese translater of  Dodie Smith's "I Capture the Castle".

ドディー・スミスの作品は日本では『１０１匹ワンちゃん』以外あまり知られていないと思いますがイギリスでは有名な劇作家でもあり、発行以来版を重ねる青春小説の作者でもあります。そして実はその本は私が日本語に訳しました。『カサンドラの城』のタイトルで朔北社から出ています。

これは昨年作った布本の『カサンドラの城』です。クレイジーキルトというより基本的にはリバティのプリントにヴィンテージのポスターを合わせていろいろくっつけた、コラージュの作品と言っていいと思います。ページは綴じずに簡単に布のホルダーに収めました。裏に小説の各場面のセリフや描写の短い引用を貼り付けてあります。

Here's another book of  "I Capture the Castle" I made last summer of not paper but fabric.
Each page is collaged with vintage poster, liberty print and other embellishments. What I would like to complete this year? 今年は何を?

昨年は久しぶりの教室展のために未完成品を少しでも終わらせたいと、年の初めから考えていました。さて今年は？

たいていのものごとは予定どおりに進まないものです。どうなるかわかりませんが、アールヌーボーＲＲから始めようと思います。私の使ったプリントはアールヌーボではなく日本・京都のアールデコのアーティスト小林かいちのものでしたが。

Here are six blocks of Art Nouveau DYB RR in 2010, though I used prints by Japanese Art Decor artist Kaich Kobayashi then. I would like to finish my own embellishment for last one and assemble them all. It'll be my first work in this year.

Gipsy Garden Collection

これはクレイジーキルトの要素は入っていない刺繍作品です。ネット上でとても好きなフランスの刺繍家の方からデザインとパターンを購入したのが４年前、けっこう集中的に６枚は頑張ったのですが中だるみが来て、９枚中３枚だけ手つかずでいたのをやはり昨年、えーィとばかりに終わらせました。

Another finished UFO from 2016

                                                         

昨年やっと仕上げたもう一つの作品をご紹介します。始めたのが何年であったかよく覚えていないのですが、その頃入っていたクレージーキルトのグループで、その年のチャレンジ（課題）がありました。一枚のブロックの上に、普段の自分とは違う色遣い、曲線の布接ぎ、レイヤードのシ―ムステッチ、風景、クモの巣、鳥、キラキラ感、立体的な刺しゅう等など、毎月の課題が与えられていて、それを盛り込んだクレージーキルトの作品を作るというものでした。震災の前でしたから２０１０年頃かもしれません。震災でいろんなことが変わり、ゆっくり仕事を楽しむという余裕がなくなって、このやりかけた作品も、毎年思い出したように箱から取り出してはまた引っ込めるの繰り返しで何年も過ぎました。でも昨年、絶対終わらせる決心で残っていた課題にとりかかり、夏に完成したものです。

Here's another finished UFO from last year. I don't remember the exact year when I started this block. I think it was before the quake in 2011. In CQI group we were given yearly challenge. There were monthly tasks; curving seams, using velvet, layered seamstithes, landscape, spider web, bird, dimenshional embroidery, glitzs, etc.
I was very happy finishing this bell-pull last summer.
