My Treasure

Sendai quilts arrived here safely and we opened the box two days ago. All quilts were beautiful far beyond our imagination. The photos never did justice. We were sure how much Japanese people would admire them for it must be first time for most of them to see real crazy quilts in person. We are realy looking foward to the event now. They are treasures.

But today I received another treasure. It was from Lauri Burgesser I met in Colorado retreat last year. When I found a lovely cqed bear in the box and read a letter from her, I was almost crying. She remembered how I missed her bear stolen by Josie in Cninese auction. After the quake and tsunami, she asked all the ladies who attended the retreat with me, to contribute something small for the bear. Lauri put it all together for me.

All their names are on the bear. She wrote to me, "We hope that this bear will bring back fond memries. Please know that all of us are thinking of you and wishing you and your country a speedy recovery!!"
I was bursting.

CQI(Crazy Quilting Internatinal) に参加して6年になります。

How much I appreciate everything from all those ladies. Thank you very much for your thoughts, friendships and loves. Lauri, heartful thanks for your sweetness!! The lovely bear is my treasure. It's just my own!!

I'm so happy for you, Hideko! Your post was so touching that I began to tear-up too.

I know we were all very, very excited when Lauri brought the bear to this year's retreat.

I hope the auctions and charity events go well for you.

Blessings, Gerry

Hideko.......I am so happy that you have your own bear now! Lauri came up with this great idea and we were more than happy to be a part of it! And.....just to clarify things, I did not steal it.........I took it very gently from you! :-) Now my little Aurora has a baby brother (or sister?) in Japan and, who knows, maybe someday they will meet in person! Wouldn't that be wonderful?? We love you! Josie in Texas

Dear Hideko Ishida,

I am a journalist in Colorado and I write a weekly Art of Quilting Column for The Daily Sentinel newspaper here in Grand Junction. Janet Popish notified me about the Hearts and Hands for Sendai project and how successful it was. I in turn contacted Leslie who put the quilt blocks together and she gave me your email.

I plan to write an upcoming column about the 94-block project and I have some questions for you.
1. When is or was your booth exhibit at the International Quilt Festival in Tagawa? What was the public reaction to the quilts?
2. Tell me about the auction you are planning to generate funds for children affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Has that happened yet and how much money was raised? Where do the children live who will benefit? What are their needs? How will you help them?
3. What is your own quilting background? I understand the crazy quilt group met for a retreat in Estes Park, Colo., and you attended from Japan. Do you travel to the U.S. often?
4. Can you email me a photo of yourself?

I appreciate any help you can give me on this subject.

Warm regards,
Sherida
