配色 Colours Combination

この配色は私にとってもかなり冒険でした。薔薇色の帯地とターコイズの組み合わせが強すぎて、途中で投げ出したくなったのですが、やり直す時間がなかったのでとにかく先に進めました。
These colours combination was a challenge to me. The rose pink of obi fabric and turquoise seemed to be too strong to me too. But I had no time to alternate, so went on.

しかし、銘仙の地色のグレーが全体に落ち着きを与えてくれています。それに合わせて私もシームには地味な色の穴糸４色、ビーズもグレーや透明のグラス、メタリック、パールのみ使いました。
But the grey of Meisen fabrics settles the strong colours combination. I also used only plain colours for seams.

大正浪漫 Japanese Romanticism

このコンテストのクレージーキルト部門のテーマはヴィクトリアン・スタイルでしたが、私は海外のコンテストですので"和”を強調したいと思い、大正から昭和初期のレトロな銘仙の着物地を使い、作品のタイトルも『大正浪漫―サクラ』にしようと決めていました。ただこれは英語にしてもわかりにくいと思い、出品タイトルは変えてあります。
The theme was "victorian style". I wanted to use Japanese kimono fabrics and picked up MEISEN which were worn in Taisho and early Showa era and are very modern in its colors and patterns. Taisyo era was very short but liberal and romantic period before the war.

今年の大きなできごと My Big Event in 2006

このブログは７月からのスタートですので、それ以前にあったことはあまり書いていません。６月にあった私にとってのビッグイベントを、２００６年の〆としてもう一度ご紹介させて下さい。
This blog was started in July, so I haven't had any chance to write about this big (to me) news in 2006. I entried the quilt exhibition in Sandown, UK in June and got Judges Merit then.



７月初めにイギリスのサンドーンで開かれたキルト展のクレージーキルト部門に出品して、幸運にも審査員賞を頂くことができました。後で向こうの雑誌に紹介されました。
ブロックの何枚かはクローズアップも含めて時々お見せしてきましたが、まとめてご紹介したいと思います。
You might have remembered a few blocks and closeups. But at the end of the year, I would like to show you the each one, for it was the biggest work I have ever done.

サンタのプレゼント Santa Claus has come

クリスマスにはサンタさんが来ます。私に届いたプレゼントの数々です。

帰ってきたクリスマスＤＹＢブロック Christmas DYB : My blocks home

クリスマスＤＹＢの私のブロックが帰ってきました。全部で６枚ですが、私の分はまだこれからですし、ケリーが飾ってくれた分は後で届くことになりましたので、今日は４枚をご紹介します。
My Christmas DYB blocks have got home last week. One block for me is still naked and another one Kerry worked would come back home later, so here are four of six.

実は先週水曜日、義父が急に亡くなり、時間が止まっていました。こういうときは一週間が一ヶ月にも長く感じられるほど、日常が遠くなってしまうものですね。
My father-in-law passed away suddenly last Wednesday and time has been stopped for a week. Still my sense of time for daily routines hasn't come back yet.

クリスマスＤＹＢ Christmas DYB

クリスマスＤＹＢの、他のメンバーの分が終わりました。
I have finished my works for all other members.
These last two blocks were really contrastive. The first one is pieced of only cotton prints and the second is of only very fancy fabrics.

カナダのケリーのブロックです。渋い色合いのコットンでピーシングしてあります。前に書きましたが、ピースがプリントだけでまとまっていると、飾りを目立たせるのが難しくなります。
This is a block of Kerry from Canada.

こちらはジルのブロックですが、対照的にゴールドのファンシーな布だけを使ってあります。ブロックとしてとても華やかですが、刺繍に不向きな布も多く、刺繍よりチャームやビーズに頼りました。
Jill's block. She is administrating the CQI with Kerry. She loves pink so much I embellished this block with pink.

ラウンドロビンは何度やっても、毎回自分の仕事が気に入ってもらえるかどうかが気がかりです。
I hope both like my works.

届いたハート二つ Two Hearts from North & South

私の「カイロの紫のバラ」は今、フィンランドとオーストラリアに新しい家を見つけてそこにおさまっています。そしてそこから届いたハート二つです。
My purple rose hearts found their homes in Finland and Australia. And two hearts from there have been added in my collection.


フィンランドのヘリーナからです。昔、滋賀県の大津にフィンランド学校があって、彼女はご主人とそこで先生をしていたことがあるそうです。私も一度だけ、ストックホルムからの夜行フェリーでヘルシンキに行ったことがあります。透明感のあふれる清潔な街でした。ちょうどこのハートみたいに。『ヘルシン』という言葉は『水』の意味だと教わったような気がします。（間違っていたらごめんなさい）。スウェーデンにはヘルシンベリ、デンマークにもヘルシンゲルという町があり、どれも水辺（海辺）の町です。
This heart is from Helina in Finland. She told me she was teaching in a Finnish school in Otsu, Japan for two years. I have been to Helsinki once, where I felt transparent and clean air just like I feel with this heart. I learned "Helsin" means "water" then. Helsinborg in Sweden, Helsingor in Denmark are also water(sea coast) cities.

これはオーストラリアのモーリーンからです。青紫の花が好きで選びました。
作るときにはいろんな色にチャレンジしてみたくなるのですが、欲しいものを選ぶときにはブルーを選んでしまいます。
This is from Maureen in Australia. I love the blue purple flower so much.
Blue is my most favorite colour when I choose, though I challenge various colours when I make my own cqs.

恒風 Tradewinds DYB

ずっとオンラインクラスのブロックの進行を集中して載せてきましたが、その間もラウンドロビンが止まっていたわけではありません。１０月１日に始まったこのＤＹＢのメンバーは、アメリカのレスリーとシェリル、ニュージーランドのジョー、ポルトガルのアナベラ、日本の枝美子さんと私、と世界のいくつもの海を越え、同じ方向に回るので、グループは Tradewinds(恒風) と名づけられました。季節風に対する恒風、昔、地理の授業で聞いた言葉を久しぶりに懐かしく思い出しました。
Behind the online class I did two blocks from the Tradewinds DYB, which started October 1. The members are Leslie and Cheryl from US, Jo from NZ, Anabela from Portugal, and Emiko and me from Japan. The wind blows all over the oceans.

１０月、シェリルのブロックです。彼女は、それぞれの国の特徴ある何かを刺繍して欲しいと希望していました。
Cheryl wanted us to embellish something featured from each country. I embroidered a butterfly constructed of pine tree leaves and apricot flowers. I stitched bamboo, too. These three characters are symbols of celebration in Japan.

永山登志子さんの「日本刺繍を楽しむ」から松竹梅を蝶にアレンジした図案を選んで刺繍しました。
I took this pattern from a book by Toshiko Nagayama, a Japanese embroiderer.

アナベラは、春にすべてのブロックが仕上がることを想定して、イースターのブロックを作りました。クレージーキルトに全てが柄の布合わせは仕事が少し難しくなります。布のにぎやかさに負けないために強い色やボリュームのあるリボン刺繍を使いました。
This is my work on Anabela's block.

沈んだ色合わせのオンラインブロックの後で、明るい色に向き合うのは気分転換になりました。

オンラインクラス ブロック完成 Encrusted CQ Lesson : Block finished

残っていた細々した作業を終え、ブロックが完成しました。
I have done a bit more work and finished the block.

リボン刺繍の前後にビーズを散らしました。
I have made a beads trail following Sharon's advice, above and below the SRE motif.

シャロンから教わった小さな蝶を隙間に刺繍しました。
I love this little butterfly Sharon taught us.

同じ蝶です。ボタン穴にビーズを飾りました。

これが完成ブロックです。六週間の長いレッスンを、シャロンに心から感謝したいと思います。
This is my finished block. I appreciate Sharon for her hard working for these six weeks. Many, many thanks. I have enjoyed this class and had so much fun.
